Design Objective: Create a magazine spread layout that complements the idea of “sustainability” in design. The design should incorporate a magazine cover promoting the article and two spreads for the article itself with text and pictures included in the design.
Design Statement: A diagonal layout was used with the spread to divide the content and bring focus to the articles and quotes. Visual hierarchy was demonstrated with the layouts, calling attention to headlines and phrases. The negative space of the blurred image made the bold, large title on the first page appear to be “in focus,” and as a result, created a successful focal point for the main headline. Interest was created with type by stressing the importance of certain words by increasing the point size, making it bold, or by simply changing the color.
